Cook-off competition highlights Agriculture Week in Colorado

The “most popular event under the Golden Dome” was once again a success, as Gov. John Hickenlooper, state officials, the media and others took part in a well-deserved “thank you” to Colorado’s farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses during Agriculture Day at the Capitol on March 22.

With an estimated 900 people in attendance, the event was highlighted by a cook-off competition that featured the teaming up of local chefs, lawmakers and ag representatives, creating dishes with Colorado-grown foods.

Under the leadership of Chef Klaus Krebs with Isle Casino and Hotel, the Colorado Egg Producers team finished second in the cook-off competiton.

Colorado Egg Producers help 'feed the love'

Colorado's egg industry was well-represented at a Valentine's Day Feeding Colorado event in downtown Denver, which drew attention to the state's hunger issues and showcased how Colorado's food banks feed our neighbors struggling with hunger.

Colorado Egg Producers' Terri Heine was in attendance, manning the Colorado Egg Producer's booth, handing out the organization's well-known "eggs on a stick," and also stepping up to the microphone as part of a list of speakers that included Colorado Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne, Sen. John Cooke, Sen. John Kefalas, Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, and Feeding Colorado Executive Director Bob O'Connor, as well as other representatives of local food banks and businesses.

Food distribution efforts to those in need also took place as part of the event. Feeding Colorado is an association of the five Feeding America food banks in Colorado: Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, Community Food Share, Food Bank for Larimer County, Food Bank of the Rockies and Weld Food Bank.
