With the school year winding down and summer around the corner, now is a great time for your family to make memories that will last a lifetime. So, why not have some family fun while making nutritious food choices? We have some great ways to get your kids in the kitchen, making eggcellent and nutritious meals!
Before starting, make sure kids wash their hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Read through the directions and assemble all the ingredients and utensils that they will need.
Once you’re ready to cook, kids should keep these three keys in mind:
1. Keep all perishable foods, such as eggs, in the refrigerator when you’re not cooking or eating them.

With these tips in mind and only 15 minutes, your kids can morph a typical egg salad sandwich from boring to incredible with the following recipe.
7 hard-boiled large eggs, divided
¼ cup reduced calorie mayonnaise
2 teaspoons yellow mustard
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
4 slices wheat bread, toasted
4 slices 96% fat-free ham
4 slices cheese, optional
Face features: olives, carrots, green or red peppers, grapes tomatoes, etc.
Coarsely CHOP 6 of the hard-boiled eggs. Lightly MIX chopped eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. PLACE 1 ham slice on each slice of bread. If using cheese, PLACE 1 cheese slice over ham. TOP with egg mixture. SLICE remaining hard-boiled egg. USE 2 egg slices for eyes on each piece of bread. MAKE a face using additional vegetable pieces.
