New Guidelines Recommend Eggs

The new 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans - released on January 31, 2010 - focus on balancing calories with physical activity, and encourage Americans to consume more healthy foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products as well as seafood and eggs, and to consume less sodium, saturated and trans fats, added sugars and refined grains.

The guidelines consists of 23 key recommendations. Colorado Egg Producers are pleased to report that eggs are included on the list of foods and nutrients to increase. According to the guidelines, Americans are encouraged to choose a variety of protein foods, which include seafood, lean meat and poultry, eggs, beans and peas, soy products, and unsalted nuts and seeds.
